Shelley lives in Boone with her husband Kent. They have three adult children and two grandchildren. Shelly was introduced to High Country Caregivers after Shelley’s mother Pauline had a stroke at age 91. Pauline moved into Shelley and Kent’s home, where she was cared for by them for two years.

HCC offered respite vouchers for families to receive an in-home aid each month to give the family caregiver a break. It was this event that inspired Shelley. She is enthusiastic about the mission of HCC and joined our board of directors. Since joining the board she has worked tirelessly to promote HCC. She is working with others on revamping the respite program to supply life changing services to families.

Shelley and Kent have been instrumental in the growth and sustainability of HCC. They donate their time, talent, and treasure to change the lives of caregivers in the High Country. They host our annual fundraiser a “Night at Chetola” along with the whole Chetola ownership and team. They help us maximize the dollars donated by underwriting and donating space and place for our event. Shelley works tirelessly to make sure that our financial reports and monies are accounted. She volunteers with a heart of compassion and respect for caregivers! Shelley is warm, positive, and inspiring.

Shelley is currently a member of The Temple of the High Country and Bethelview Methodist Church. She has served as a board member of the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Summer Festival.

Shelley received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Science in Environmental Science and Engineering from VA Tech. She has worked extensively in the environmental field as a civil service employee for the Army and Defense Logistics Agency, as well as a contract engineer.
