Bob Washburn

Although Bob Washburn is High Country Caregivers’ newest board member, he is certainly not new to making an impact on his community. Bob is passionate about serving others and being an exemplary leader.

He became acquainted with the HCC through another board member in 2019. Bob’s initial reaction when told the organization supported grandparents raising grandchildren was, “How many can that be?” He will now tell you that the need is staggering and there is much work to be done.

In addition to attending functions and giving to support the work of HCC prior to joining the board, he and his wife Glenda dedicated their time during the holiday season to ensuring children who may not receive gifts have presents and a smile on their faces. Together, they purchased, wrapped and delivered holiday gifts for children supported in the HCC program. Since joining the board, Bob has worked to promote the mission of the organization, along with continuing his work for the betterment of our community’s children.

Bob came to the mountains as a student at Appalachian State University in 1976, graduating with an undergraduate and master’s degrees in Business Administration. His career in banking now spans over 40 years. He has served as President and CEO of LifeStore Bank since 2004. The bank has also been a supporter of HCC. Bob currently serves on the executive committee for the North Carolina Bankers Association, the Community Banking Council for the American Bankers Association, and the CEO Strategic Planning Advisory Council for the bank’s core provider. Bob is also the Chair of the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce.

Bob and Glenda have been members of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for 35 years serving in many various roles over the years. He has also been on the boards of many other community organizations that have helped those in need in the High Country. He has also coached multiple sports when his children were younger for Watauga Parks and Recreation.

While Bob and Glenda certainly stay busy within their community, they make ample time for their growing family. They have raised four wonderful children. They are now enjoying grandparenting with five grandchildren. His oldest grandson named him Pop, and that name has stuck with each of the others.

Prioritizing family as a core value is what has inspired Bob to get involved and support families who aren’t receiving support to meet basic needs. He believes that if individuals understand the desperate need, they will support these families. While it would be nice to see state or federal government assist, it is the responsibility of each of us to help those in need. His goal to ensure that all families have access to necessary support and resources is shown through the mission and work of HCC.
