Christmas Angel Program

As years go on and more families enroll with High Country Caregivers, our Christmas Angel Program continues to grow. Last year, we were able to give 89 children a magical Christmas with loads of presents and stockings. This holiday season, we are serving over 150 children, and we need your help! Over 90% of our families are of low socioeconomic status, and the goal of our Christmas Angel Program is to give these children a magical Christmas they otherwise may not have. The High Country Caregivers team has worked diligently to receive each of these children’s Christmas wish lists and with your help, we can make the holiday season so much brighter for these families. Children’s Wishlist – Corn Maze

On Saturday, October 22nd, all six of our counties were able to come together to have a fall-filled day at the New River Corn Maze in Boone, North Carolina. This event was filled with all different kinds of fall fun including picking out pumpkins to carve, getting lost and then finding our way through the tricky corn maze, and going on a hayride around the beautiful mountainous area of Boone!

The caregivers from Watauga, Ashe, Wilkes, Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties were able to mingle and build relationships with many other families just like them. At this event, we had 55 participants at this event and for the first time in HCC history, at least one family from each of the 6 counties we serve came to an event! We had an absolute blast and are so grateful for our donors that make these events for our families possible.

AOPii Events

We are excited and overjoyed to be partnering with Appalachian State University and the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority for another year. Better known as AOPii, this sorority has helped bring loads of fun activities for our children such as Fall festivals, Winter holiday events, Spring field days, and much more. We are continuously grateful for this partnership and love having these wonderful sisters help make our children’s lives special.

The Learning Shack Update

In our last newsletter, we presented a new program called “The Learning Shack.” Since then, The Learning Shack has taken off and is creating endless opportunities for our most creative kids. So far, The Learning Shack program has given our children the opportunity to learn how to sew, create beautiful pottery, make jewelry, cook wonderful meals for their caregivers, tour Mayland Community College, and just recently, how to bake. Visit us on social media to follow The Learning Shack journey!

Christmas Party

Every year, High Country Caregivers hosts a Christmas party for our caregivers and children to come together for a holiday-themed meal. This gives the children and caregivers of the now six counties we serve to come together and mingle, create relationships, and share the love that comes with the wonderful holiday season.

We would like to thank the Chetola Resort for giving us the opportunity to offer this event for our families and for their constant support of our programs that change lives forever.
